Solid Hardwood, Built for the Weather
Our hardwood external doors are made from dense, hard-wearing timber that stands up to British weather year after year. Dowelled, solid construction and a warm natural grain give a real-wood entrance with the strength to match. Choose glazed, leaded or unglazed styles to suit period and modern homes. Part of our external doors range.
Wooden Front Doors
Front doors are the core of the range: solid wooden front doors in classic panelled, colonial and cottage designs, with clear, frosted or leaded glazing to bring light into a hallway, or unglazed panels for a private, traditional entrance.
Why Hardwood Outside?
Hardwood external doors are strong, naturally insulating and built to last, giving good security and thermal performance alongside the looks. Because it's solid timber, each door carries its own grain, and the finish can be refreshed over the years rather than replaced.
Frames and Finishing
Setting up a new entrance? Add a matching door frame and lining, and protect the timber with the right exterior wood treatment.
More Timber Entrances
Prefer the look of oak? See our oak external doors. Across our hardwood external doors you'll also find stable and rear-entrance styles in the same solid timber.
FAQs
Yes. Hardwood is dense and hard-wearing, so a solid hardwood external door stands up to daily use and British weather when it's properly finished and maintained.
For an exterior door, use a quality exterior oil or UV-stable finish to protect the timber from sun and rain. Oil is easy to top up as it weathers; exterior varnish gives a harder film but needs stripping to recoat. Refresh the finish every year or two.
Most arrive unfinished, so treat all faces and edges — including the top and bottom — with an exterior finish before or right after hanging to seal out moisture and protect the door.
Solid hardwood is naturally strong and insulating, giving good security and thermal performance, especially when fitted with quality locks and proper weatherseals.
