How a fire door actually works

A fire door only performs as a complete set. The door carries a solid, fire-resisting core behind a real timber or painted face, with a hardwood lipping around the edge, but it relies on the right frame, intumescent seals and hinges to do its job. When heat builds, intumescent strips around the door expand and seal the gap, holding back smoke and flame. Fit any part wrong, or prop the door open, and the protection is lost.
