A fire door is only ever as good as the doorset around it. Hang a certified door on the wrong frame or ordinary hinges and much of the protection is lost, because the rating depends on every part working together. Frames, linings and casings

The frame is where the doorset begins. A fire-rated frame or lining holds the door squarely, carries the intumescent seal around the edge and resists fire for as long as the door it surrounds, which is why a standard lining cannot stand in for a rated one.

Seals and hinges

Around the door edge, intumescent strips and seals swell in heat to close the gap against flame and smoke, while fire-rated hinges, usually three per door, carry the extra weight and keep it closing tight. Both are tested parts of the doorset, not optional extras.
