Fire Doors That Suit a Modern Home

A contemporary fire door brings the clean lines and smooth, minimal face of a modern interior to an opening that has to be fire-rated. There is no reason a fire door on a landing or between a kitchen and hallway should look heavier or more institutional than the doors around it, and these designs are made to sit quietly in a pared-back scheme while still holding back flame and smoke.

Our contemporary fire doors run from flush and lightly fluted faces in warm oak and walnut through to crisp white and deep black, all part of the wider internal fire doors range. The fire rating is built into the core, so you choose on looks and let the protection take care of itself.

Styles and finishes

The modern look leans on smooth flush and fluted faces with little or no moulding. You will find them in warm oak fire doors and walnut for a natural feel, and where a room needs to borrow light, glazed fire doors bring a fire-rated glass panel into the same clean styling. Crisp white and deep black finishes round out the range for brighter or bolder schemes.

Which rating you need

Most contemporary fire doors are fitted in the home, where a 30-minute rating is the standard, and you will find those in our FD30 fire doors. Where a building calls for longer protection, the FD60 fire doors step up, in the same modern styling.

Fitting and keeping the rating

Like any fire door, a contemporary fire door only performs as part of a complete doorset, so it needs a fire-rated frame or lining, intumescent strips and seals, and fire-rated hinges, with a closer where one is required. Keep the seals intact and avoid trimming beyond the manufacturer's limits so the rating holds.

FAQs

It is about the look rather than the fire performance. Contemporary fire doors have clean, flush or lightly fluted faces and minimal detailing to suit modern interiors, while carrying the same tested fire rating as any other fire door.

Both 30-minute and 60-minute ratings. Most homes use the 30-minute version, while the 60-minute is specified for higher-risk or commercial buildings. The modern styling is the same in either.

Yes. Glazed options set a fire-rated glass panel into the same clean styling, which suits darker hallways and open-plan spaces where you want to borrow light without losing the rating.

They can. Many people mix a clean, modern door into an older property for contrast, especially in a renovated kitchen or extension. The choice is about the look you want, since the fire performance is the same.
