When and Where to use Internal French Doors

When talking about internal French doors, many of us will instantly conjur up images of the sliding style of glazed patio doors. In actual fact, French doors encompass a far greater range of styles and designs; some of which are not even glazed. However, for the purpose of this article, we will focus on the glazed style of internal French doors. French doors can be used in a variety of ways – not just for leading out onto the patio! Internal French doors can be used to divide rooms, allowing plenty of natural light to come through. A stylish room divider can be a great feature and very practical too. If you need to create an additional area of space without the stress and expense of building additional rooms (maybe if part of your home is used as an office space) then internal French doors can be a great way of achieving this. Internal French doors allow you to separate rooms of a home whilst allowing maximum light to flow throughout the house. We offer a superb range of glazed interior French Door Sets which are pre-glazed with clear bevel edge.

Choosing Internal French Doors

Internal glazed French Doors with side and demi panels are available in Pine, Oak and Meranti. Consider your existing furniture and décor in your home to ensure that the doors will complement this. All doors are pre-glazed with single glazed toughened bevelled glass. The glass is covered with a protective film to enable you to varnish the door and simply peel of the film. Our French doors are engineered to provide greater stability than traditional construction methods. All stiles and mid rails are constructed with pieces of laminated timbers which are glued together and then veneered over to provide a much stronger style or rail which will not twist or warp. The French Door panels are raised and fielded on both sides and constructed of medium density fibreboard (MDF) with a timber veneer added to match the stiles and rails. Using MDF in the construction avoids shrinkage and panel splitting which can happen in traditional construction methods.  Applying a 'real wood' veneer provides greater colour uniformity and improves the appearance of the door. Most of our French doors are supplied unfinished, but please check on the individual product. We can recommend the right products for finishing your internal French doors which will improve the longevity and appearance of your new doors. It goes without saying that you should check building regulations/planning permissions/all the legal stuff if you’re planning any major changes. If installing internal French doors to replace a partition wall then do check it is not load bearing! If in doubt then check with your Local Authority Building Control Department before undertaking work.
