2015 Interior Design Trends

With 2014 winding down (or wrapping up depending on how excited you are for Christmas), those of us who always want to stay ahead of the trends are starting to consider what fresh life we can bring to our homes in 2015. Whilst a complete redesign might be taking things a little far (unless you have the budget and the time, of course), here we've collated a few of the subtle design trends you might want to consider dipping your toes into, that we think will be making waves in the next 12 months. Of course, everyone has their own unique style, so don't feel like to have to marry yourself to just one theme. And don't feel like you need to completely abandon a style that works for your just because it's not currently in vogue. If you're truly happy with your designs, why not simply add a few small touches here and there, that keep you on trend without completely abandoning your individuality? Whatever you decide, these are trends you certainly won't want to ignore.

The Living Room

One look that seems set to take off in 2015 is the “Urban Jungle,” look, which matches rustic, natural colours with a modern style. The overall design is like a cross between an African tribal hut and a typical urban apartment, with ethnic patterns and complex textures very much the order of the day. More complex patterns in general are also set to make a resurgence in 2015, with fusions of textures, colours and designs certainly not to be frowned upon. Ethnic designs can really bring life to an otherwise drab room, and it has the added bonus of making you look incredibly cultured! <a href="https://www.With 2014 winding down (or wrapping up depending on how excited you are for Christmas), those of us who always want to stay ahead of the trends are starting to consider what fresh life we can bring to our homes in 2015. Complex patterns and textures such as those featured in the pillow cushions above, are set to make a serious resurgence in 2015. Another trend that looks set to hit the living room next year is the merging of the indoors and out. Now, this doesn't necessarily mean planting a tree next to the fireplace, but don't shy away from using organic materials. This could be anything from building a rock formation around your fireplace, to simply making the room a little greener by investing in a few more plants or using warmer colours like dark browns and oranges.

Whilst this might be an extreme example of merging the outdoors with the indoors, there are some wonderful ideas here.

The Kitchen

When it comes to Kitchens in 2015 the key word is “glamour.” With just a pinch of 50's American Diner chic and a liberal dash of bold colours, you'll be well ahead of the pack come the spring, when those colours will catch the sunshine and really dazzle your guests! Consider darker reds offset by more neutral tones such as light green, beige or apricot, and don't be afraid to experiment with patterns. Indeed, patterns are set to make a resurgence in general next year, so let's count “Don't fear patterns” as a general rule.

The design here is obviously indebted to the 1950's, but not in a retro way. The contrast between the dark and bright colours really makes the room pop. As far as your fittings go, warm metallics are always a good bet when you're using bold colours elsewhere. Wooden work surfaces will never go out of style, of course, but make sure if you have gone the wooden route with your kitchen counters, that they have been well maintained - this is especially true of reclaimed wood. Lighting should remain soft and comforting - if you haven't yet invested in a dimmer switch, the kitchen is easily the most important place to do so!

The wooden counter here is a classic, and the lighting is soft and subtle. A truly sleek modern design.

The Bathroom

This year, free-standing bath tubs are looking like they might become popular again. Conversely, many homeowners might consider doing away with the tub entirely due to the green benefits of showering over bathing and sheer time constraints. Whether you're a bath or a shower person though, the “look” that will be taking bathrooms across the country by storm in 2015 will be “Slick Sylvan.” Mixing smooth contours with warm wood and subtle patterns to create a boutique feel that's halfway between homely and luxurious, the sylvan look is all about warmth and subtlety.

Note the free-standing bath and the slick, sleek design here. There's even a hint of the outside/in design coming through in the corner. The bathroom is the one room in the house where you can truly be alone without any fear of intrusion. That means it's the room where many of us tend to relax and feel most comfortable. Accentuate this with soft colours; gentle blues, whites and greys (the fastest growing choice for bathroom colours), and don't be afraid to bring a little of the outside in with you. As far as pattern work goes, keep it simple. There's no rule that a bathroom has to be covered in tiles. Also, consider wooden cabinets to amplify the boutique vibe.

With its wooden cabinets, grey colour scheme and simple, elegant design, this bathroom couldn't possibly be more 2015! The Bedroom They say it's “where the magic happens,” but that doesn't mean you have to go overboard. In fact, the bedroom is (lest we forget) quite literally the one room almost all of us will spend a solid third of our lives, so feeling comfortable is of paramount importance. Keep colours warm, but don't be afraid to experiment with contrasts, you might just discover a happy accident of a colour combination that works a treat.

The warm, contrasting colour scheme here is delightful, and it just radiates comfort. And finally, floral designs might be seen as a little “basic” when it comes to bedroom furnishings, but rumour has it that they are to return in a big way in 2015. If you just can't bring yourself to buy another floral pillow though, we'll understand.
